Arriving at your final destination – resort, hotel, cottage, condo or villa – for your vacation or honeymoon on a small island like Maui is quick and easy. Most visitors drive south from the airport in the direction of Kihei and Wailea via Mokulele and Piilani highways (Rte. 31) or west along Honoapilani highways (Rte. 30) for Lahaina, Ka’anapali, Kahana or Kapalua. Some will also drive east from the airport along Hana Highway to a northshore vacation rental for close proximity to water sports.
Maui Airport Lei Greetings
If you’ve arranged for a Maui Airport lei greeting you’ll be welcomed to the island with Aloha as you leave the escalator downstairs near the baggage area. You’ll be then, greeted by a young Wahine (woman) performing a hula dance accompanied by a young Kane (man) playing a Hawaiian song on the Ukulele.
Maui Weather & Climate
Disembarking from your flight at Maui’s Kahului Airport (OGG) is always an overwhelming wonderful feeling, both for Hawaii visitors and for residents who have lived on this idyllic isle for years.
When you step from the plane the warm, sweet tropical air that is kept cool and fresh by the trade winds, typical at Hawaii’s latitude, envelops you blowing from the northeast across thousands of miles of the Pacific Ocean. As you begin your vacation on the Valley Isle, you can keep up to date with Maui current weather conditions and Maui weather forecasts.
Maui Rental Car – Best Things to Do:
The island of Maui offers heavenly beaches and amazing natural wonders so there are plenty of reasons why Maui has been voted one of the “Best Islands” in the world year after year and its beaches are ranked among the best in the world, too. Maui is also known as the home of the best windsurfing, kite surfing, big wave surfing and tow-in surfing in the world.

- The Road to Hana. Take off early to drive the Road to Hana! It’s the #1 thing to do when vacationing on Maui! You can enjoy waterfalls, pools, secret beaches, bamboo forests and yummy little meals on the road in Hana or Kipahulu. You may drive completey around the island’s south side through Kaupo. It takes a bit longer, but it’s well worth it, especially since you end up in upcountry Kula. Don’t miss out on a bath at Seven Sacred Pools or a hike, starting from the same parking lot, through the bamboo forest to an amazing waterfall. Park Entry fee is $10 and applies to Mt. Haleakala as well. If you don’t like to drive by yourself, you can always enjoy a narrated van tour; we call it “Maui Heavenly Road to Hana Tour”.
- Sunrise at the House of the Sun. Take off VERY early (2:00-4:00am) well before sunrise at and drive to 10,000-foot Haleakala Summit to enjoy the sunrise. It’s a “Must Do” Thing! But be aware, it’s very cold up there, really, it feels like zero degree at your home town with high humidity and strong winds, so be well prepared! National Park Entry is $10 per vehicle. A narrated van tour is available for “Haleakala Sunrise Van Tour”.
